Paloma Story
On Monday, March 18th, our friend Betsy Connors informs us by phone that a young mare is wandering the streets near L’encuentro beach with a huge facial wound. We take out the trailer and go looking for it to bring it back safely to the foundation. Angela is the only one in the region who has traditional and natural veterinary medicine skills to rehabilitate injured horses both physically and psychologically.
This wound was terrible, his eye completely exploded was to cause her incredible suffering. According to Angela, the director of the foundation, this young mare barely more than a year old, must have been shocked by a car and this, at least a month before being brought here (this will actually be confirmed by the after)
His eye will be irretrievably lost. Thanks to a combination of good wills like Betsy Connors, Dorothy Maynard and a few others, funds have been put together for Angela to bring from the capital Santo Domingo, the Foundation’s veterinarian, Nayib Aude, for the next Friday, March 22nd.
After 3 days of antibiotics to prevent any risk of infection, tetanus puncture and deworming, Nayib operated on the mare Dorothy named Paloma. 3 hours of surgery were needed to remove the damaged eyeball. Paloma was very brave and very confident, as if she understood perfectly well that what was happening would save her life, because such an injury would surely have killed her a few days later.
Once the wound was cauterized, daily care could begin. Angela had already developed a special ointment for this kind of wound: a mixture of zinc oxide, mentiol and aloe vera pulp, accompanied 3 times a day by spraying colloidal silver solution.
As a street horse, in addition to his injury, Paloma was in great deficit of minerals and vitamins. So in addition to the fresh grass and the daily food dosage, she was treated to a good Redglo vitamin supplement.
It has been 20 days since Paloma was operated, and Angela’s daily care has been tremendously effective. The wound is closing quickly and Paloma will finally be able to claim a dignified and quiet horse life, of course after a re-education led by Angela to teach him to live well with one eye.
